What We Are Trying To Do For Our Musicians

Other than learning to play a musical instrument, our overall aim is emotional, intellectual, physical and social growth through music experiences. As a member of one of our Bands, you will learn:

  1. To enjoy working with others; demonstrate some leadership/mentoring.
  2. To develop individual talents for a musical life at home and within the community.
  3. To know music through familiarity with specific compositions, composers and styles.
  4. To develop a desire to listen to quality music.
  5. To experience the thrill of playing well for oneself, with others and for others.
  6. How to meet new people and develop new and lasting friendships.

Growth through music will be gained by learning to:

  1. Concentrate on the job at hand; show what commitment & practice can achieve.
  2. Play an instrument and successfully complete tasks in an ensemble setting.
  3. Listen to the playing of others (recordings, performances and rehearsals).
  4. Develop a musical ear (training of pitch, rhythm and melodic intervals).
  5. Develop rhythmic and melodic feeling and accuracy.
  6. Play in a large group (concentration, matching, timing and balance).
  7. Play individually at home, at Concerts, in rehearsal and within the community.
  8. Accept constructive criticism by the conductors, adjudicators and our audiences.
  9. Find intellectual, social, emotional and physical satisfaction through your musical activities.
