Band Room Use
The Band Room is open first thing in the morning until at least 4:30 pm every school day. The room is also open at least 45 minutes before every evening rehearsal. The Room can be used for practicing for any period during those times.
1. Store your backpack, coat, books and lunch bags in your locker … items left on the floor, shelves and in the storage areas inhibit others from doing their jobs easily. Be considerate of other Band members.
2. Be ready to play ‘on-time’. To your Director, this means set - up, warmed - up and ready to work (with a pencil, water bottle and tuner).
3. Use the bathroom before class / rehearsal so as to limit the distractions (affecting the whole group).
4. Respect the wishes of the Director; if given instructions try to follow them as soon as possible. Often the needs of the group proceed the needs of the individual.
5. During classes and rehearsals, refrain from drinking anything other than plain water and leave the snacks & gum for before or after our playing times.
6. Practice rooms are for Band member use… to play your horn or to write an exam that was missed. Keep the food / small groups within the larger room, so that our younger musicians are able to rehearse without intimidation from the older students!
7. When the Band is not playing, players should be doing what is necessary and listening to whoever is talking. Talking to someone else at the same time is counter - productive and rude! Often the conversations affect more than the speaker and the person answering them; be sensitive.
8. Leave your personal gear, case and outer wear in an area which allows others to move freely. We all need ‘personal space’ so by keeping most things in the hall or under your chair everyone can fit comfortably.
9. Band students may use the Teacher’s office to make a phone call (without permission), but with privileges also comes extra responsibility. So remember to speak up if you see other students acting inappropriately. If you make a mess, clean it up … so that we all can enjoy the space together.
10. When you are not playing your instrument, please ensure your folder is in the folio cabinet and your instrument is neatly on the shelf (not on the floor in front of the shelf).
11. Before leaving the rehearsal, please ensure that your chair, stand and the storage racks and / or tables are back into the Band Room. A group of students can return the large items much easier than the Directors can.
